We use fair trade coconut oil in many of our products because it literally does everything for your skin! It is the ultimate moisturizer. Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, which helps retain the moisture content of your skin while helping it look and feel silky smooth. It also exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells, making your skin softer. Coconut oil also is able to penetrate your skin on a deeper level than your average product because of its low molecular weight and the way it bonds with proteins. Coconut oil contains lauric acid that prevents the growth of harmful bacteria while it’s anti-inflammatory properties help soothe skin, treat acne flare ups and give your skin an overall healthy glow.
I love to experiment and found that mixing coconut oil with some of my favorite kitchen ingredients made for great skin loving face masks. I love honey! (maybe I was a bear in my previous life – have to ask mom!). Honey is soooo good for your skin.It opens up your skin pores to cleanse them and get rid of black heads. It's antioxidants, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties helps fight acne, keeping your pores free of oily dirt at the same time keeping skin hydrated and tighter.
So naturally my first attempt for a face mask was a combination of local honey, coconut oil and shea butter. Shea butter is another ingredient that has so many skin benefits, including fading dark spots, scars and restoring skin elasticity. It's a must have for anyone who wants to keep their skin healthy and youthful!
This recipe takes about 10 minutes to mix and will leave your skin feeling and looking refreshed all day long. This is the first in a series of DIY Face Mask Recipes that are easy to make and give your skin a healthy, vibrant glow.
